Duties and Responsibilities:
5.1 Bed Management
5.1.1 Regularly communicates bed capacity/ availability updates to multidisciplinary teams.
5.1.2 Monitors compliance of patient length of stay as part of initial physician admission assessment with proactive discharge planning.
5.1.3 Develops processes and systems to ensure transparency of bed utilization and availability.
5.1.4 Follows up discharges and supports multidisciplinary team implementation of hospital protocol in event of patient refusal for discharge.
5.1.5 Discusses current bed situation and bed pressures through multidisciplinary meetings to assist in making recommendations and effective strategies for the improvement of immediate situation.
5.1.6 Develops regular reports to review bed utilization performance.
5.1.7 Assists in data collection for monitoring and statistical purposes.
5.1.8 Presents appropriate data to support and promote evidence-based decision making regarding bed management.
5.2 Clinical Management
5.2.1 Confer with physician to confirm appropriateness of patient’s admission and continued stay in the acute care environment.
5.2.2 Encourage interventions appropriate to the reason for the patient’s admission.
5.3 Leadership Management
5.3.1 Assist and maintain a pleasant/harmonious unit atmosphere to ensure safe working environment.
5.3.2 Contribute to decreasing the length of stay/waiting times by promoting inter-disciplinary collaboration with outcomes aimed at the best interest of the patient and their families.
5.3.3 Ensure that all hospital-wide and unit specific nursing policies and procedure related to hospitalization and discharge planning is adhered to.
5.4 Quality Improvement
5.4.1 Uphold the organizational mission, vision and values.
5.4.2 Contribute to the setting, monitoring and maintaining of standard of care.
5.4.3 Identify and report accidents and incidents.
5.5.1 Participate in research utilizing evidence-based practice related to practice and to initiate changes.
5.5.2 Assist and contributes for own professional growth and keep up-to-date with professional changes in collaboration with Health Education Department.
5.5.3 Update himself/herself with the information technology system of the hospital.
5.6 Works collaboratively with other departments and services to define and study areas of inefficiency and participates in process improvement projects.
5.7 Performs other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of her knowledge, skills and abilities as assigned and delegated by the unit head in accordance with the hospital policy.
